Romans 8:22-23
We know that all creation is groaning in labor pains even until now; and not only that, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, we also groan within ourselves as we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies.
All that God has created shares in our yearning for more. St. Paul says it brilliantly when he says we “groan within ourselves.” While our culture offers all kinds of things to satisfy this groaning…like material possessions, power, prestige, celebrity, alcohol, sex, etc. the solution is spiritual. The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger sang, “I can’t get no satisfaction.” That’s because God is the only One who can satisfy this groaning for completion and wholeness. God is the only One who can tell you who you are. God alone can satisfy your inner groaning. You can find your way to God now by following Jesus who told us that He was “the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). Following Jesus will require making changes in the way we live our daily lives.
