Right Relationship

Matthew 5:23-24
“Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”

Being in right relationship is usually more important than being right. If we’re honest with ourselves…usually being right is more about our egos. Jesus makes it clear that a right relationship with God also depends on our relationships with one another. We are all part of one body. If we want our relationship with God to be a good one…then we have to make sure that our relationships with family, friends, strangers and all of creation…are okay too. How are those relationships going…and what needs to change so that all may be one?

1 Response to Right Relationship

  1. Lauri Lumby's avatar Lauri Lumby says:

In conflict, “right relationship” for me means 1) identifying my role in the conflict and the underlying fears or unhealed wounds that caused my behavior (if inappropriate), then seeking healing, taking responsibility and saying I’m sorry. 2) putting myself in the shoes of my brother/sister and asking God to help me understand the unhealed wounds or fears that may have caused their behavior (if inappropriate) and asking for compassion for myself and healing for them.
