Matthew 7:1-3
“Stop judging, that you may not be judged. For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye?”
When Jesus tells us not to judge, He doesn’t mean we shouldn’t judge whether an act by another is right or wrong. His teaching is against passing judgment…as in passing judgment in arrogance without acknowledgement of our own faults. None of us is perfect. We are all made whole…only by God’s grace…God’s unconditional love and forgiveness. The challenge is to find the place in our own lives where we do not reflect the loving image of God and allow God’s grace to change us. Another challenge is to realize that the person who irritates me…is as beloved to God as I am. What is blocking me from being the unconditional lover like God?
