Take the Road Less Traveled

Luke 4:24
“Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.”

Jesus had just told the leaders in the synagogue that He was the one the prophet Isaiah had foretold…who would “proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind,” and “let the oppressed go free.” But the leaders said, “Who does he think he is?” They all saw him grow up as just a carpenter’s son. Have you ever been prompted somewhere deep inside to speak up for someone who was unjustly treated or to tell someone in need about the love of God? And if you followed through…did you find that those closest to you looked down on you with contempt? Did you find that those closest to you…now distanced themselves from you? Following God’s calling and being a disciple of the light is sometimes the most difficult when you’re with the people who know you best! Jesus felt this judgment as well…but took action anyway. Turn to Him for help and follow your heart. It may lead you down a road less traveled…but it will be the path leading you to freedom, wholeness and your true self.
