Colossians 3:9-10
Stop lying to one another, since you have taken off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed, for knowledge, in the image of its creator.

It seems we all form what Thomas Merton called a “false self” before our soul’s misery will finally force us to see the delusion.
Most of us spend our early years conforming to what our culture and/or parents want us to be.
We try to be “successful” based on the criteria of power, prestige and possessions.
There is never enough to satisfy our egos’ need for more.
Usually it takes having the rug pulled out from under us…some type of fall or suffering…before we wake up and ask: “What is my life really about?”
Your “true self” can only rise when your false self…dies.
One sure way to discover your true self is to follow Jesus.
He will lead you to cast off your “old self with its practices” so that a new self…the one made “in the image of its creator” can emerge.
However…the ego will not willingly give in after years of being in charge.
The “me-centered” old self will demand attention.
But as a Christ-consciousness begins to grow in you, you will suddenly be able to observe what’s happening.
It’ll be an awakening.
And then, without judgment, you’ll allow the old self to be dismantled.
What is your unique image of God to the world?
