Incarnation

John 1:1-5, 14
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to be. What came to be through him was life, and this life was the light of the human race; the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.

How is the Word becoming flesh in you? May the life of Christ continue to grow in you so that you might become the unique expression of God that you were meant to be. A peaceful and joyous Christmas to you!

Divine Guide

Psalm 25:4-5
Make known to me your ways, LORD; teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior.

Do you ever feel lost…like you just really have no idea what your next step should be in dealing with a situation…a relationship…or your life’s direction? Who would have a better idea of the best next-step…than God? Loving God, make known to me Your will. There is so much NOISE distracting me! Help me to hear Your gentle voice in silent prayer…through reading scriptures…through Your wondrous creation and through the words and actions of others. As I stray…I trust that you will lead me back to the right path. As Thomas Merton prayed, “I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.”

Spiritual Longing

Luke 1:53
The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty.

Those who are hungry or empty many times turn to God for help. They have no other options. They are open to God’s loving care. Those who are rich or filled often believe they are just fine and need no help. Their heart is in their possessions. They may be completely unaware of their true need of God. Spiritually…the poor can be rich while the rich can be poor. It’s not just possessions that we sometimes cling to…but power and prestige as well. What are your attachments? May we be willing to let go of our attachments so that we may be open to a deeper connection with God.

Have Faith

Psalm 71:5
You are my hope, Lord; my trust, God, from my youth.

God…I thank you for all the blessings in my life. All my pain and difficulties I hand over to You knowing that You are my only true hope. You have shown me in Jesus that you would go to any lengths to prove Your love for all people. You have shown me that all my pain and struggles will be used to transform me into my true self if I only trust in You. New life and love will win in the end. You are my deliverer. I put my life in Your hands!

Redeemer and Deliverer

Psalm 72:12
For he rescues the poor when they cry out, the oppressed who have no one to help.

God loves each of us unconditionally. Our loving Creator wants to be with us to rescue us. This was perfectly demonstrated to us through Jesus. When you feel oppressed…call out to God! Open yourself to the peace God yearns to bring you. As for the poor and oppressed around us and throughout the world…how will God lift them up and rescue them? Maybe…it’ll happen through you?

Everlasting Love

Psalm 72:17
May his name be blessed forever; as long as the sun, may his name endure.

Jesus reigns forever. He is the Alpha and the Omega…the beginning and the end. When all else fails…His love is everlasting. He is Who God Is. Anchor your life on that foundation. Place your hope in Him. May this bring you inspiration!

Savior

Psalm 34:7
In my misfortune I called, the Lord heard and saved me from all distress.

Is there something you are struggling with? That very struggle can be the key to your salvation (wholeness). It is the very place where God wants to be with you. It is where we can truly experience Who God is. It is in our weakness that God lifts us. It is what God does. The name “Jesus” literally means, “Yahweh saves.” Let God’s unconditional love bring you relief…and save you.

Divine Guide

Psalm 25:4-5
Make known to me your ways, Lord; teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my savior.

Who do you look to for guidance? Your Source…the Maker of all…desires that you be a part of the great dance of creation. In this Advent season…why not invite Jesus to come into your life in a new way? Humbly open yourself to Him. Spend some time in silence and simply listen to the voice in your heart. God wants to guide you to becoming your true self. The Word became flesh in Jesus. How is the Word becoming flesh in you?

The Real Jesus

Matthew 11:18-19
For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking and they said, ‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is vindicated by her works.”

How often do we judge others based on appearances? Jesus gave us two examples where people judged John the Baptist and Himself wrongly. That is the first lesson of today’s scripture. The second is that many of us have never had a genuine picture of Jesus. We have instead been given a pious, sanctimonious and other-worldly portrait of someone very unlike ourselves. But Jesus said that critics described Him as a “glutton and a drunkard” as well as “a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” For many of us…picking up a bible and reading the gospels would be a great way of meeting the real Jesus…for the first time.

Divine Deliverer

Isaiah 41:13
For I am the LORD, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, “Fear not, I will help you.”

The prophet Isaiah lived 700 years before Jesus but he made some incredibly accurate predictions about the coming Messiah. The line quoted here may have been written by one of Isaiah’s followers who carried on his prophetic call. God was truly speaking through these prophets who were passing on the messages they were receiving through prayer. This message says that the God of the universe is ready to grasp your hand and say, “Fear not, I will help you.” Jesus perfectly mirrors this God. Open yourself to God’s offer to help you.
