Open Hands

Matthew 5:3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Everyone is looking for happiness…and in the Beatitudes Jesus gives us the blueprint for being happy. The very first line is the key to having life to the full. Cling to nothing! Do not hold on to anything so as to be attached or identified by it. At the same time…do not renounce those things. Be able to accept and enjoy the blessings God brings into your life and be able to let them go…passing them on to others. When we are not attached to things that don’t last…we will be open to experiencing the things that do last. We will be able to begin experiencing the kingdom of God. We will be able to begin experiencing the joy of becoming the unique, beloved children of God that God intended us to be. As it says in today’s second reading, “Beloved, we are God’s children now; what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.”
