Luke 24:36-39
While they were still speaking about this, he stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself.
After suffering the greatest injustice in history…the resurrected Jesus returns to His followers…well…His deserters at this point…and He wishes them “peace.” There was no condemnation…no reprimands. He tells them not to be afraid or troubled. Why fear anything anymore? Jesus has showed them (and us) the path to wholeness and peace. Death does not win. New Life is assured. But notice that the scars remain on Jesus’ body. While they are no longer bleeding…the marks are still there. The struggles, pains, and sufferings of life are a necessary part of the journey that leads to wholeness and your true self.
