John 10:10
“I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”
Jesus did not become human to give us an evacuation plan to heaven. He came that we might have life now and have it more abundantly now! Jesus showed us how to be fully alive as human beings. It is through a daily practice of dying and rising…dying to our false self (ego) so that our true self can rise. We become givers instead of takers. In giving…we receive abundantly. If we follow Him and allow Him to shepherd us…we will have life to the full now. And when death comes…that moment will again be now…and new life will most assuredly follow.

Bill,
You must be following the lectionary readings. 🙂 This was the exact mantra I chose for my contemplation this morning. “that we might have live and have it more abundantly.” In this I ask myself, what does abundance mean to me? It is not about money, fame, success, things….it is a felt sense of inner expansiveness and peace that tells me that I am exactly where God wants me to be. Our culture tells us to look outside of ourselves for fulfillment and yes, fulfillment comes in the naming, claiming and sharing of our gifts….but not because of the external recognition or rewards, but because this is the place that God ordained as in our highest good and the place where others are able to either be reminded of or come to know their own gifts…to quote my own blog from this morning…the place where we know that we are home.
Thank you for being a voice of compassionate insight in the world!
