Love Is Inclusive

Matthew 5:43-45
“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your heavenly Father, for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.”

This is one of the teachings of Jesus that most people simply ignore. We make many Church teachings non-negotiable but for some reason a direct teaching from Jesus like this one is hardly ever quoted. That’s because it’s difficult. But is this not the same thing that saves us…the unconditional love and forgiveness of God? Christ gladly comes to be with us in our failings to lift us so that we know it’s not about our own doing that saves us. It’s not our goodness…but God’s goodness. It’s about who God is. To love our enemy we must see that person as God does…as a beloved son or daughter. Who in your life needs to receive God’s grace…through you?
