2 Timothy 1:9-11

He saved us and called us to a holy life, not according to our works but according to his own design and the grace bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before time began, but now made manifest through the appearance of our savior Christ Jesus, who destroyed death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, for which I was appointed preacher and apostle and teacher.

When St. Paul speaks…he speaks a mouthful!

Read the scripture passage again…and allow his words to sink in.

God saved us not by our works but by grace in Christ “before time began.”

This, my friend, is original blessing.

It’s a “saving” that accepts us, loves us and makes us whole.

Christ became human.

In other words, “the Word became flesh” (John 1:14) in Jesus and showed us that death is an illusion.

It does not have the final say.

Jesus also showed us the way to eternal life in each moment of our lives through the way he lived each day and through the way he died.

St. Paul, who was first a persecutor of Christians and involved in their murders, was transformed into the greatest evangelist of all time by grace.

This same man, who never met the historical Jesus in the flesh but in a mystical experience on the road, said he was “appointed preacher and apostle and teacher.”

No matter what we’ve done, the same kind of transformation is promised to us today.

Thank God for grace and compassion!
