What are the attachments preventing you from being your true self?

Luke 12:15

Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

Jesus consistently said things counter to what our culture upholds as the ideal.

Our society basically tells us that greed is good.

Advertising is based on convincing us that we need more.

We need whatever item is being peddled.

Our society idolizes those who are rich and famous.

Yet to “not covet our neighbor’s goods” is one of the Ten Commandments.

Coveting is promoted by our capitalistic and consumerist culture.

While the possessions in and of themselves are not evil…they easily become attachments…keeping us focused on holding on to them while distracting us from our calling in life.

Jesus demonstrated how to both enjoy things and to let them go.

It was not an “either-or” scenario…but a “both-and.”

You can both enjoy the possessions you are presented with and let them go…giving them freely to those in need.

This freedom from attachments is key to being able to go with the flow of the Spirit’s call in your life.

Otherwise, you are imprisoned by your possessions…shackled from acting in love…and distracted from the Divine Presence in each moment.
