Philippians 2:5-7

Have among yourselves the same attitude that is also yours in Christ Jesus, Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather, he emptied himself…

St. Paul’s advice is that we have the same self-emptying attitude of Christ.

The idea is to stop operating out of your ego which is always wanting to make itself look good and special.

That is a very self-centered way of living.

Instead, St. Paul advises us to let go of those egocentric desires.

Such desires are usually wants and not needs.

When the ego is allowed to fade to the background…the true self is able to emerge.

The paradox is that when you let go of your attachments (those things that you think you must have in order to be you), you are able to discover your genuine self.

Then you can live and bloom from the self-less place of Love.

As Jesus stated, “Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit” (John 12:24).
