Romans 12:5

We, though many, are one body in Christ and individually parts of one another.

St. Paul seemed to mystically know things that were beyond his time.

Science is now confirming the connectedness of all things.

As Thomas Merton told a conference of Asian monks in 1968 shortly before his death, “We are already one. But we imagine that we are not.”

Jesus knew of the connectedness between God and everyone: “So that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you, that they also may be in us. And I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one” (John 17:21-23).

This is how Jesus could demand that we love our enemies (Matthew 5:44).

And it’s how Paul could go on to say, “Bless those who persecute [you], bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:14-15).

The delusion is that it’s all about me.

That’s the result of egos gone wild.

Thomas Merton went on to say, “What we have to recover is our original unity. What we have to be is what we are.”

Use your creativity, talents and interests…to serve.

Be who you are!
