Before taking action…ask yourself how you can be a channel of peace and truth.

Mark 2:1-2

When Jesus returned to Capernaum after some days, it became known that he was at home. Many gathered together so that there was no longer room for them, not even around the door, and he preached the word to them.

When Jesus preached…people came in droves.

This scripture passage says he preached “the word” to them.

Do you suppose “the word” was fire and brimstone…threatening hell and damnation?

Not a chance!

That would not draw the poor and powerless.

The word “gospel” means “good news.”

Jesus preached about the unconditional love and forgiveness of a compassionate God.

He spoke of a God who would never abandon anyone.

He spoke words of hope.

Jesus also healed people of their infirmities.

This is the one we are called to follow.

How can each of us preach “the word”?

We can certainly use our words to uplift, instruct and inspire.

But…we can do even more with our actions.

How we live our daily lives is the most important thing.

As St. Francis is credited with saying: “Preach the Gospel at all times, and if necessary…use words.”
