“We are invited to forget ourselves on purpose, cast our awful solemnity to the wind, and join in the general Dance.” – Thomas Merton

We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.
I think we can sometimes get frustrated when people talk about “callings” because many times we don’t know what our calling is, or it’s just not very clear.
Perhaps it’s not some perfectly concrete answer but a matter of being present to the evolution of that calling.
It’s a co-creative thing with God.
God, who is Love, wants to commune with us in creating more love, justice and compassion in the world.
I think that this requires that we do what is generally counter-intuitive to us humans: get out of our heads!
Take time for contemplation, some form of meditation such as Centering Prayer.
Allow new inspiration to rise from within.
Start living out those inspirations always with love and compassion as your motivation.
You don’t need any definite grand final outcome in mind.
Just exercise your gifts and talents in love and see what develops.
Then perhaps the scripture verse from St. Paul today will come to life for you?
Over twenty years ago, I was inspired out of the blue to write and sing songs.
It made no worldly sense!
But the process eventually led me to returning to college, then to a new career in ministry, as well as recording four albums and publishing two books.
Twenty years ago, I had no idea that my life would look like it does today, and I can attest that things have worked for good.
We are all continuously being invited to God’s on-going creative dance.
