“To say that I am made in the image of God is to say that love is the reason for my existence, for God is love.” – Thomas Merton, New Seeds of Contemplation

Ephesians 3:17-19

That you, rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

St. Paul was convinced through and through about the infinite love of God.

In today’s passage, he calls it the “love of Christ” that he says “surpasses knowledge.”

It’s not just a head thing but a heart thing.

It’s not just a concept but an action.

And when you do comprehend it, you are actually “filled with the fullness of God.”

Elsewhere Paul stated that in God “we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28).

We are in God and God is in us.

It’s as though Paul is trying to explain the unexplainable.

Paul was so convinced of this Infinite Love, that he spent the rest of his life preaching about it until his execution.

Paul knew that this Love is stronger than death.

Jesus showed him this quite clearly.

Sit for a while in silence and contemplate this scripture passage and my reflection.

Then rest in the glory of it all.

How will you respond with your life?
