Matthew 7:21

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”

Saying nice words and having pious beliefs doesn’t mean much without accompanying action.

As it says elsewhere in scripture: “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26).

Jesus tells his followers that people simply reciting “Lord, Lord” or other such prayerful recitations doesn’t result in any transformation.

He says such people must also do the will of God or what good are the words?

And what is the will of God?

Well, since Jesus said the greatest commandments were to love God with all your heart, mind and soul and then to love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:36-39), I’m betting God’s will is that we love.

And that doesn’t mean only loving the people we like.

Remember that he also commanded us to love our enemies (Matthew 5:44).

So, when we are being compassionate, merciful, and forgiving as well as helping to free the oppressed (Luke 4:18), we can safely say that we are in close proximity of doing God’s will.

This requires action which at times will be very difficult.

How does one get to the point of being of such service to the world?

The best way is to truly experience that you are the beloved of God.

That’s the only way you’ll be able to act from a place of love.

Do you know that you are loved unconditionally and eternally by God?

You are.

Believe it!

Allow this to move your heart.

When this happens, the kingdom of heaven will be at hand!
