Matthew 1:20

Behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home.”

Finding God in all things is part of Ignatian Spirituality.

God, the Holy One, is all pervading.

If we are attentive, present to each moment, we are apt to see the movement of the Divine.

When you live as if all things are sacred, and they are, then you are more likely to experience the Sacred.

A number of years ago, a friend and I were driving several states away for a special event.

Our church band was being featured on a Christian TV show due to my original songs.

Unfortunately, I was coming down with a bad sore throat and cold.

When this happens, usually my voice is the first thing to go.

As my friend drove, she was trying to lift my spirits by looking for God-spots, those little signs that God is with us.

We found many things.

Then, as there was a clearing in the tree line along the highway, we got a brief look at the most stunning sunset.

The sun’s appearance in the clouds was in the perfect form of a blazing orange and red heart.

We were literally awestruck.

We felt sure that this was a comforting message that all would be well.

The next day, despite a cold and sore throat, I felt amazingly well and managed to sing perfectly.

Right after the show, my voice started to quickly fade. When I returned home, I was sick for the next several days.

The Divine Presence is present!

And this Presence can break into our awareness anytime, anywhere.

Like Joseph in today’s scripture, it can happen in your dreams.

It can happen in a song or poem, a work of art, in nature, through an animal like your pet, or through another person.

Regular journaling will give you new insights into the thread of the Divine running through your life.

Be present.

Each breath you take is a participation in the Sacred.
