Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom should I fear?

When the psalms speak of the Lord, they are speaking of God.

Scripture tells us that God is light (1 John 1:5).

It also tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8).

This coincides well with the thousands and thousands of Near Death Experience testimonies of encountering a Light that exuded an overwhelming love beyond any earthly description.

While I don’t believe I had an NDE, I did have an experience of ecstatic love while at my lowest point in the hospital following a ruptured appendix in 1998.

I’m not sure of the duration of this mystical event as it may have been an instant or several minutes.

It came out of the blue so to speak in the middle of night while I lay awake in the dark.

I suddenly was enveloped in the unconditional love of God.

I had done nothing to deserve or merit such an encounter.

It certainly was the turning point that jettisoned me in a new direction in life.

When you find yourself in the Light of God, you are filled.

You are whole and complete beyond any illusory constructs of this world.

That is salvation.

It is given to all people all the time as a gift.

It’s grace, pure and simple.

Scripture also tells us that “there is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear because fear has to do with punishment, and so one who fears is not yet perfect in love” (1 John 4:18). 

When you know you are loved unconditionally and that you have eternal life assured, what is there to fear?

This is the good news of the gospel that is so desperately needed to be heard and accepted.

Take time to rest in the Divine Presence.

Some form of meditation such as Centering Prayer is helpful.

Just be.

Breathe.

Listen.

You are loved.
