Dying to our ego’s pursuits…leads to the fullness of life.

Matthew 19:39

“Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.”

This is an example of one of Jesus’ teachings that for many people probably goes in one ear and out the other.

But in reality…it is a core teaching.

Living the Gospel…following Jesus…requires letting go of our egocentric desires.

That would be all the things we think will bring us happiness…but are mostly centered in our childhood programs for happiness…things that are based on security, control and esteem.

These pursuits will never truly satisfy our cravings but will only lead us to wanting more.

That will lead you to a life of endless, meaningless pursuits.

But when you let go of that stuff and in a sense…lose the life that popular culture entices you to…and instead seek to be a loving presence to life as it unfolds…you actually find your true self.

It’s the life you were meant to take part in.

It’s the very life of God.
