Psalm 69:33-34

“See, you lowly ones, and be glad; you who seek God, take heart! For the LORD hears the poor, and does not spurn those in bondage.”

Many people are crying out for God’s help.

There are many suffering from their circumstances.

We know that God cares for the poor by looking at the way Jesus lived his life.

He was always reaching out to those on the margins of society and trying to include them.

Who will reach out to those people today?

Who will be the ones to make sure people are treated with the dignity and respect due them as children of God?

Who will “take the option of the poor” as Catholic Social Teaching defines as a “basic moral test” for society?

Who will demonstrate our solidarity as “one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences”?

That “who” would be you and me.

It’s our call as followers of Jesus.

We are all being called.
