“I do not understand the mystery of grace – only that it meets us where we are but does not leave us where it found us.” – Anne Lamott

Psalm 118:27

The Lord is God and has enlightened us.

+++

Scripture tells us that God is light and that in God there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5).

Since God is also love (1 John 4:8), then the light emanating from God is love.

It’s the light Near Death Experiencers find themselves enveloped in before returning to their bodies.

This light gives life to all things.

When this light shines into our consciousness, it enlightens us.

We start to see things that we didn’t see before.

We start to see in new ways.

This Love is unconditional.

It’s absolute.

It encourages us to also love in this way.

It shines light on the faults and shadows in each of us so that we can see that we are no different from anyone else.

We are all in need of light, love, forgiveness, and mercy.

This Light heals and makes whole.

As St. Paul famously said, “Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:4-8).

To love is difficult!

But do not fret.

Do not despair.

It happens by grace!

That’s why St. Paul also said, “I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10).

That’s because it is God, or Christ, living in me that accomplishes what I cannot.

Jesus said that God makes the sun rise on the bad and the good, and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45).

It’s all grace, my friend.

Bask in it.
