“The nature of the God force, the unseen intelligence in all things, which causes the material world and is the center of both the spiritual and physical plane, is best described as pure, unconditional love.” – Wayne Dyer

Jesus said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.”
This was Jesus’ final teaching to his followers before he departed from this earthly realm.
Unfortunately, what a follower does with this teaching depends on what his or her definition of “the gospel” is.
The belief that the gospel is that Jesus died for your sins and you must believe that or you go to hell has done great harm and inflicted great trauma.
What Jesus was trying to show us was how to live our lives in the awareness of being unconditionally loved by our Creator.
Jesus poured himself out for others.
He healed and restored people to wholeness.
He challenged any authority that was inflicting harm on the least of these (Read Matthew 25:31-40).
Jesus called everyone to be inclusive of the marginalized.
Of course, the government leaders and the religious leaders of the time did not want to treat all people equally.
They did not want to include all people – especially not those people!
You know, fill in the blank.
The ones deemed to be sinners.
Those in power got rid of Jesus in a most brutal fashion.
But it gave Jesus the ultimate opportunity to respond to injustice with love and forgiveness, not violence.
Followers are called to do likewise which is far more than simply stating that you accept Jesus as your savior.
The gospel, or good news, is that God loves all people and all of creation unconditionally.
That’s why Jesus said to proclaim this gospel to every creature which would include all of creation.
You do your best preaching with your actions.
As St. Francis is credited with stating: “Preach the gospel at all times, and when necessary use words.”
Whether he actually said it doesn’t matter because we can see this statement reflected in how Francis lived his life.
Believing that God loves me unconditionally just as I am saves me every day.
It frees me from guilt and shame.
It inspires me to love others and to share that message with all of creation each day.
That is the good news of salvation.
Receive it and be free!
