John 10:27-28

“My sheep hear my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand.”

Whose voice are you listening to?

And whose voice are you following?

There are many voices trying to command our attention, trying to get us to do this or that.

In today’s scripture verse, Jesus says that his sheep hear his voice.

He seems to be telling us that there is a transcendent voice, a voice beyond this earthly realm.

It takes some silent attentiveness to hear this quiet and loving voice over the din of the many other voices.

The Gospel of John is the more theologically developed gospel.

The writer wanted to get across some deeper teachings gleaned from years of thought.

It was probably written around the year 100, some seventy years after the crucifixion.

In this gospel, Jesus taught that he is in God and “you are in me and I in you” (John 14:20).

There is a oneness beyond what our normal human intellect can grasp.

Science is now confirming much of this oneness at the molecular level.

Jesus says that when we follow his lead, his way, he gives us eternal life and that we will never perish.

As Teilhard de Chardin stated, “We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”

Your soul, your consciousness, is housed temporarily in your body.

We are all destined for eternal life.

But Jesus says we can have it now.

Now my friends!

It’s always now.

As Jesus said: “The kingdom of God is within you.”

Let go of all the noise.

Follow the ways of Jesus and experience the deep realm of God’s peace and love right now…and always.
